Are you racing at HYROX Vancouver or looking to take your HYROX performance to the next level? BPM Fitness Centre is bringing you a unique opportunity to learn directly from one of Canada’s top HYROX athletes and experienced HYROX coaches.
On Sunday, July 26th from 12:00pm to 2:00pm, join HYROX World Champion Maddy Eybergen and Coach Haydn Thomas at BPM Fitness Centre in Victoria, BC for an intensive 2-hour HYROX Performance Workshop. This workshop is designed to help athletes run more efficiently, improve technique across all eight HYROX stations, and develop smarter race strategies for both singles and doubles competition.
Whether HYROX Vancouver is your first race or you are chasing a new personal best, this workshop is the perfect opportunity to kickstart your HYROX training and better understand how to optimize your performance on race day.
What Is the HYROX Performance Workshop?
HYROX is a unique fitness race that combines eight 1-kilometre runs with eight functional fitness stations. Success requires more than simply being strong or having a good aerobic engine. Athletes need to understand pacing, movement efficiency, transitions, compromised running, and race strategy.
At BPM Fitness Centre, our HYROX training and group fitness classes are designed to prepare athletes for the physical demands of functional fitness racing. This HYROX Performance Workshop takes that preparation even further by breaking down the technical and strategic components that can make a major difference on race day.
Over two hours, Maddy Eybergen and Haydn Thomas will guide athletes through running gait and technique, all eight HYROX workout stations, and singles versus doubles race strategies.
The goal? Help you move more efficiently, train with purpose, and arrive at your next HYROX race with a clear performance strategy.
Improve Your HYROX Running Gait and Technique
Running makes up a significant portion of every HYROX race. Athletes complete a total of eight kilometres of running, but unlike a traditional road race, each kilometre is completed between demanding functional fitness stations.
This is known as compromised running, and it can completely change an athlete’s running mechanics, pacing, and perceived effort.
Maddy Eybergen brings an elite running background and world-class HYROX experience to this workshop. Athletes will learn how running gait, posture, cadence, pacing, and movement efficiency can impact overall HYROX performance.
Understanding your running technique is especially valuable when preparing for HYROX Vancouver. Small improvements in running economy can potentially save valuable energy that can be used during sled pushes, lunges, wall balls, and other demanding stations.
For athletes looking to further understand their individual running mechanics, BPM also offers a Running Performance Assessment designed to assess movement, running mechanics, and areas for performance improvement.
Break Down All 8 HYROX Stations
A standard HYROX race includes eight functional fitness stations:
- SkiErg
- Sled Push
- Sled Pull
- Burpee Broad Jumps
- Rowing
- Farmer’s Carry
- Sandbag Lunges
- Wall Balls
During the HYROX Performance Workshop at BPM Fitness Centre, athletes will break down each station and learn how technique and efficiency can influence race performance.
The strongest athlete does not always have the fastest HYROX time. Poor sled technique, inefficient transitions, aggressive early pacing, or unnecessary movement can quickly increase fatigue.
The HYROX Performance Workshop will focus on helping athletes understand how to approach each HYROX station with greater control and confidence. Coaches will discuss movement technique, pacing considerations, energy management, and common mistakes that may slow athletes down during a race.
These are the same functional movement patterns that form an important part of BPM’s group fitness and HYROX training programs. Our Victoria fitness centre features sled lanes, SkiErgs, rowers, free weights, turf, and functional training equipment designed to help athletes prepare for HYROX competition.
HYROX Singles vs. Doubles Race Strategy
Should you race HYROX Singles or HYROX Doubles? More importantly, how should your race strategy change depending on your division? Our HYROX Performance Workshop will cover this as well!
The physical stations may look similar, but singles and doubles racing require very different strategic approaches.
In HYROX Singles, athletes must complete every running segment and the full workload at every station. Effective pacing and fatigue management become critical, particularly during the first half of the race.
HYROX Doubles athletes run every kilometre together but can divide the workload at each functional fitness station. This creates an entirely different strategic challenge.
How long should each partner work? When should you switch? Should one athlete complete more of a particular station? How do you avoid losing time during transitions?
Maddy and Haydn will break down HYROX Singles and Doubles strategies to help athletes better understand workload distribution, communication, pacing, and station planning.
For doubles teams racing at HYROX Vancouver, this section of the workshop could be one of the most valuable parts of your race preparation.
