Fitness can be about much more than calories burned, personal records, or finishing times. Sometimes it becomes something bigger — bringing people together around a cause that matters.
This weekend, our BPM community came together for a by-donation HYROX class in support of Cystic Fibrosis Canada, raising over $700 to help support individuals and families affected by cystic fibrosis (CF). The energy in the room was incredible. Members, coaches, and community supporters showed up not only to challenge themselves physically, but to contribute toward meaningful change.
For us, this event carried even more significance because this cause is close to home. Supporting those living with cystic fibrosis isn’t just about writing a cheque; it’s about standing behind people facing daily challenges most of us never see.
What Is Cystic Fibrosis?
Cystic fibrosis is a genetic disease that primarily affects the lungs and digestive system. Individuals with CF produce thick, sticky mucus that can build up in the lungs, making breathing difficult and increasing the risk of infections and long-term lung damage.
Simple things many people take for granted — breathing comfortably, exercising without limitations, recovering from illness quickly — can become ongoing challenges.
While significant advances in research and treatment have improved life expectancy and quality of life, CF remains a lifelong condition requiring constant management. Many people living with CF undergo daily treatments, medications, therapies, and monitoring simply to maintain their health.
Organizations like Cystic Fibrosis Canada play a critical role by funding research, advocating for access to treatments, supporting families, and helping improve outcomes for those affected by the disease.
Why Fundraising Matters
Research breakthroughs don’t happen by accident.
Behind new medications, improved therapies, and increased survival rates are years of research, clinical trials, medical professionals, advocates, and community support. Fundraising creates the resources necessary to move progress forward.
Decades ago, many children diagnosed with cystic fibrosis were not expected to reach adulthood. Today, advances in science and medicine continue to improve both life expectancy and quality of life.
That progress exists because communities continue showing up.
Every donation, every fundraiser, and every event helps create momentum.
While $700 may look like a number on paper, it represents something much bigger: dozens of people deciding they wanted to contribute to improving lives.
Why HYROX Was the Perfect Fit
HYROX has become one of the fastest-growing fitness trends in the world because it combines functional strength training with endurance-based cardiovascular work in an accessible and scalable format.
Workouts often include movements like:
- Running intervals
- SkiErg and rowing
- Sled pushes and pulls
- Lunges
- Carries
- Functional strength exercises
What makes HYROX unique is that it challenges multiple systems at once. Participants are building strength, endurance, power, coordination, and cardiovascular fitness all within a single session.
Most importantly, every movement can be modified. Whether someone is new to fitness or an experienced athlete, HYROX training can meet them where they are.
Exercise and Lung Health
Exercise cannot prevent or cure cystic fibrosis, but physical activity plays a major role in overall respiratory health.
Regular cardiovascular and functional training can help:
- Improve cardiorespiratory fitness
- Increase exercise tolerance
- Improve efficiency of oxygen use
- Strengthen respiratory muscles
- Enhance endurance for daily activities
- Support overall health and quality of life
HYROX workouts create repeated periods where the body demands more oxygen and adapts over time. As fitness improves, many people notice activities like climbing stairs, carrying groceries, running, or participating in sports feel easier.
The body becomes more efficient at delivering and using oxygen.
That doesn’t necessarily mean bigger lungs; rather, it means better conditioning and improved cardiovascular efficiency.
It’s one of the reasons people often describe feeling like they have “more energy” after consistently training.
Fitness Has Always Been About Community
At BPM, we believe fitness is about living longer and stronger — but strength isn’t only measured by weight on a barbell or a race result.
Strength can also mean showing up for other people.
Seeing our community rally together for this fundraiser was a reminder of what makes fitness special. People from different backgrounds and fitness levels all stepped into the same room with a shared purpose.
They worked hard.
They laughed.
They sweat.
And together they made an impact.
To everyone who attended, donated, volunteered, or supported this event: thank you.
You helped raise over $700 for Cystic Fibrosis Canada, and more importantly, you helped demonstrate what a strong community can accomplish.
We couldn’t be more proud.
