Walking into a new fitness class can feel intimidating when you don’t know what to expect. Will you be lifting weights? Running? Learning new exercises? Is the workout appropriate for beginners? Consider this your ultimate guide to BPM Fitness Centre’s fitness classes!
At BPM, we want everyone to feel comfortable walking through our doors. Our group fitness classes are designed for a variety of fitness levels, goals, and training preferences. Whether you want to build strength, improve cardiovascular fitness, learn new skills, prepare for a HYROX race, or simply enjoy exercising with a great community, there’s a BPM class for you.
Here’s what you can expect from our five primary fitness classes: Strength Conditioning, Cross Conditioning, HIIT, Bootcamp, and HYROX.
Strength Conditioning: Build Strength and Learn to Lift
If getting stronger is your priority, Strength Conditioning (StrengthCon) is a great place to start.
Our 60-minute Strength Conditioning classes focus on building muscular strength, developing proper exercise mechanics, learning new skills, and improving overall conditioning. Rather than throwing together random workouts, StrengthCon follows a structured 20-week program using undulating periodization.
That means your training changes strategically over time, allowing you to develop strength while continually challenging your body.
Expect exercises such as squats, deadlifts, presses, rows, lunges, and other resistance-training movements using barbells, dumbbells, kettlebells, and additional equipment.
At the end of a programming cycle, members also have the opportunity to test their strength through one-repetition maximum (1RM) testing across selected exercises.
Best for: Anyone who wants to get stronger, build muscle, improve lifting technique, and follow structured strength programming.
Cross Conditioning: Strength, Skills and Conditioning Combined
Like variety? Cross Conditioning (CrossCon) combines several different styles of fitness into one constantly varied workout.
These 45–60-minute classes may incorporate elements of Olympic lifting, powerlifting, gymnastics, functional fitness, strength training, and cardiovascular conditioning.
One day might emphasize barbell technique followed by a conditioning workout, while another could involve gymnastics skills, functional movements, and intervals.
An important part of Cross Conditioning is learning. BPM coaches regularly introduce and teach different skills, giving members an opportunity to improve movement technique and become more confident with exercises they may not encounter in a traditional gym workout.
Best for: People who enjoy variety, want to learn new fitness skills, and like combining strength and conditioning.
HIIT: Maximum Efficiency in 60-45 Minutes
Short on time but still want a challenging workout?
Our High-Intensity Interval Training (HIIT) classes are designed to provide an efficient, full-body workout while improving cardiovascular fitness and overall conditioning.
HIIT alternates periods of higher-intensity work with periods of recovery or lower-intensity activity. At BPM, those intervals can incorporate barbells, dumbbells, resistance bands, cardio equipment, and functional exercises.
The interval duration, resistance, and intensity vary throughout the programming, meaning you won’t necessarily encounter the same workout every week.
Most importantly, “high intensity” is relative to you. You don’t have to match the person beside you. Our coaches can adjust movements, resistance, and intensity to help you train at an appropriate level.
Best for: Busy people, cardio lovers, and anyone looking for an efficient full-body conditioning workout.
Bootcamp: Full-Body Fitness and Plenty of Variety
Our 60-minute Bootcamp classes have become a BPM fan favourite because they combine fitness, variety, and community.
Bootcamp uses intervals, circuit training, resistance exercises, cardio, and functional movements to create a well-rounded full-body workout.
You could find yourself moving between dumbbells, kettlebells, resistance bands, bodyweight exercises, cardio equipment, and other stations throughout the gym.
The goal isn’t simply to make every workout as difficult as possible. Programming changes the load and intensity over time, creating different challenges while keeping training interesting.
Bootcamp is also an excellent option if you enjoy the social side of group fitness. Everyone completes the workout together, but exercises can be adjusted to different abilities and experience levels.
Best for: Anyone who wants a fun, varied, full-body workout combining strength and cardio.
HYROX: Running Meets Functional Fitness
If you’ve searched for “HYROX training near me” or “HYROX classes in Victoria, BC,” BPM is the place to train.
BPM Fitness Centre was the first HYROX-licensed gym in Victoria, BC, and our two studios include the equipment needed to train for the sport, including sleds, turf, sandbags, kettlebells, wall balls, Concept2 RowErgs and SkiErgs.
Our 60-minute HYROX classes combine running, cardiovascular conditioning, muscular endurance, functional strength, and HYROX-specific skills.
Depending on the day’s programming, you may work on running intervals, sled pushes and pulls, SkiErg or rowing technique, farmer carries, sandbag lunges, wall balls, burpees, pacing, or transitions between exercises.
And you don’t have to be a HYROX competitor to participate. The combination of endurance and functional strength makes HYROX training an effective fitness option even if you never plan to race.
If competition is your goal, however, our programming can help you understand the demands of the event and develop the fitness and technique required for race day.
Which BPM Fitness Class Should You Choose?
There isn’t one “best” class — it depends on what you enjoy and what you want to improve.
Want to get stronger? Try Strength Conditioning. Want strength plus technical skills and constantly varied workouts? Try Cross Conditioning. Looking for a fast-paced workout? HIIT could be for you. Prefer full-body circuits and variety? Give Bootcamp a shot. Want to combine running, strength, and functional endurance? Come experience HYROX.
